Hamburg Airport (IATA code: HAM, ICAO code: EDDH), known in German as Flughafen Hamburg, is a major international airport in Hamburg, the second-largest city in Germany. Hamburg Airport serves a wide range of worldwide destinations and receives 37,000 passengers daily. Located within the city limits, it offers a train connection of only 20 minutes to Hamburg city centre. The journey by car is almost as fast, even during rush hour.

Getting out or going to the Hamburg Airport:

  • By subway / suburban train, bus or long-distance bus
    S-Bahn line S1 takes you from Hamburg Central Station to the airport and back every 10 minutes with a journey time of only 25 minutes each way. You can reach the S-Bahn station "Hamburg Airport (Flughafen)" directly from Terminals 1 and 2 (Arrivals) via elevators, escalators, and fixed stairs. One stop from "Hamburg Airport", at "Ohlsdorf" underground and suburban railway station, you have the option of changing to U1 underground line.
     
  • By Taxi
    For a relaxed and safe journey home, taxis are available at the taxi stands in front of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. In order to guarantee the greatest possible comfort, all taxis at Hamburg Airport are regularly checked for the special quality criteria of Hamburg Airport. Payments in the taxis can be made in cash as well as cashless, booster seats are available on request.

The connections to Hamburg are also excellent for rail travellers from Germany and Europe. The central hub is the Hamburg Central Station | Hauptbahnhof, which opened in 1906. The ICE train station Dammtor is only a few steps away from the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg.

Hamburg is woven into a dense network of long-distance roads. As Germany’s longest motorway, the A7 forms the north-south axis, the A1 runs from the Baltic Sea to Saarland, while Hamburg is connected to Berlin via the A24 and to Schleswig-Holstein via the A23.

HAMBURG PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Germany has great cars, yes, but you don’t need one to get around Hamburg. Apart from a lot of walkable urban space the city has a tight network of subway lines, trains and buses as well as several ferry services. Those who prefer individual transport can always rent a city bike and enjoy Hamburg’s splendour on two wheels.
