About Us

The Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBS) at Shinshu University is an inter-disciplinary fusion of unique biological sciences and medical research. The IBS focuses on the ideation, basic research, clinical testing, and commercialization of medical discoveries for disease treatment and healthy life extension.

Advances in carbon nanoparticle science have opened new avenues for application in medical devices. The IBS aims to begin producing and testing artificial joints that have been treated with carbon nanotubes for wear resistance and toughness. Establishing the safety of carbon nanotube-incorporating joints will also be paramount for global clinical adoption.
