The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery (Bone & Joint) was established with the object of: 'The advancement and improvement of education in orthopaedic surgery and allied branches of surgery and the diffusion of knowledge of new and improved methods of teaching and practising orthopaedic surgery in all its branches'.

Bone & Joint’s main activity is the publication of The Bone & Joint Journal (IF 4.6), as well as Bone & Joint 360, a bi-monthly digest journal delivering expert summaries from the global orthopaedic literature, and open access journals Bone & Joint Research (IF 5.1) and Bone & Joint Open (IF 3.1).

Bone & Joint also have a range of digital products designed to support orthopaedic surgeons. OrthoMedia offers on-demand videos for orthopaedic knowledge and surgical training; OrthoSearch is the ultimate search engine for orthopaedics; and OrthoPublish is an innovative formatting tool that helps get manuscripts ready for submission.

BJJ LIFE is the brand-new essential MCQ resource from The Bone & Joint Journal, launched in September 2025 to help trainees prepare for their qualifying exams. BJJ LIFE directly addresses many of the issues that trainees face, such as the fact that very few revision materials are aligned with the specific structure and demands of the FRCS, EBOT and JCSFE exams, practice questions aren’t of high enough quality or written in the format you need, and revision tools do not offer linked learning resources.

As part of Bone & Joint’s charitable remit, we also support several orthopaedic fellowships with financial donations. These include the ABC fellowship, the Mark Paterson Travelling Fellowship (an initiative with EFORT), and the British Orthopaedic Research Society/Bone & Joint Research Fellowship.
